Sustainable Cities and Communities –
Indicators for Resilient Cities




A resilient city is capable of preparing, recovering and adapting to shocks and stresses. This standard, together with the indicators set forth in ISO 37120, allow the evaluation of Resilient Cities and also the taking of actions to manage and mitigate human and natural stress in relation to environmental degradation and economic instability that cause persistent negative impacts.

It presents specific indicators and also presents structured indicators in accordance with a risk management and disaster management process; monitoring compliance with Sustainable Development Goals and structured in accordance with the provisions of the Sendai Framework for disaster risk reduction, these have the goals of helping cities to:

• Prepare, recover and adapt to shocks and stresses
• Generate learning based on comparing performance measures and sharing good practices.

Scope:

• Applicable for measuring resilience in cities
• Applicable to any city, municipality or local government
• Applicable regardless of size or location
